Red Bird at Rush Hour.

A NYCTA Redbird pulls into 68 Street - Hunter College Station on the IRT 6 Line to take on more passengers in an already crowded car. Some of these cars had a rather unusual "retirement", having been lowered into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Delaware. They were used to form an artificial barrier reef.

Photographed by Paul Joyce, December 13, 2000.
Added to the photo archive by Paul Joyce, June 1, 2006.
