Trolley and TramTwo of Portland, Oregon's distinctive transit options meet in this view from the 8th floor of the Center for Health and Healing of the Oregon Health Sciences University.
An outbound Portland Streetcar run has just arrived at the Moody Avenue stop, while an aerial tram has just begun its climb to the OHSU main campus in the west hills above the city
The streetcar will loop around the South Waterfront neighborhood and return to this stop in about 10 minutes on its return trip to northwest Portland.
Its right-of-way at this point is the former Southern Pacific Jefferson Street branch, which was part of the "Red Electric" interurban system from 1915 to 1929.
This line, at the peak of its interurban existence, had 32 daily round trips along the stretch between Portland and Lake Oswego.
The single-track streetcar ROW has since been replaced by a double-track ROW in the middle of Moody Avenue, which was completely rebuilt.
