When you think of homemade railcars, the famed narrow-gauge "Galloping Goose" cars of the Rio Grande Southern in Colorado may first come to mind. Here's proof that the ingenuity that went into creating such creatures was not limited to the Colorado Rockies.

The Mount Hood Railroad once operated this homebuilt railcar in the early 20th Century, where it made up to four round trips daily between Hood River and Parkdale. The U.S. Department of the Interior had it designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1993 and put it on display at the Parkdale depot.
