PCC at Ashmont.

Pullman-Standard PCC 3238, wearing its 1971 era paint scheme, has just unloaded passengers at Ashmont Station, who will now go through turnstyles to the Red Line Rapid Transit. The two major PCC trolley manufacturers were the St.Louis Car Company of St. Louis, Missouri, and the Pullman-Standard Car Manufacturing Company of Worcester, Massachusetts. With the exception of its very first experimental PCC known as the "Queen Mary", and the Pullman-Standard PCC's purchased used from Dallas Railway and Terminal in 1958-59, Boston purchased all its PCC's from Pullman-Standard. The St. Louis cars were more rounded with the Pullmans being more angular. Most cities went with St. Louis. Trolley buffs will argue which was the best, but after sixty-one years of dependable service for both company's products, I think both are winners.
