CAR 16 OPERATES FOR FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS AT CERAAt the Connecticut Trolley Museum on September 13, 2003 Car 16 saw the light of day for the first time in a number of years. The trolley has been in the shop since then and many hard working weekends by the museum's shop crew have resulted in the car operating for the first time in 20 years. CERA Technician/Plain old Volunteer Roger Steele is seen at the controls of the car for it's first move on it's own power! Originally from the Springfield Street Railway, Car 16 was built in 1926 by Wason Car Mfg.
It was Designed to provide service from the B&M Railroad station to Charlestown, New Hampshire, west across the Connecticut River, using the Springfield Terminal Railway owned toll bridge and along the twisting Black River to the industrial town of Springfield, VT, ending its trip in front of the Adnabrown Hotel.
Until last year, Car 16 was stored inoperable, awaiting repairs. Structurally and paint wise, the car is in decent shape. The museum hopes to get the car operable for public again soon. If you are reading this and have interest in this particular car and would like to make a donation to the Connecticut Trolley Museum, to help make the car operable for public once again, please contact the museum at (860)-627-6540 or visit the website at www.ceraweb.org and contact the museum there!
