Head of the Class...

MAX #101, the class leader of TriMet's original light rail fleet, heads an eastbound Blue Line train in Gresham, Ore. The view from the Wallula Avenue overpass looks down the cut east of the Ruby Junction yard and shop complex.

This segment of the original MAX right-of-way carried interurban trains of the Mount Hood Railway & Power Co. in the early 20th Century. Long after the interurbans disappeared, the line was used for diesel-powered freights of the East Portland Traction Co. before its conversion for light rail.
