In the Footsteps of Lewis and ClarkThe Lewis and Clark Explorer train meets Astoria Riverfront Trolley car #300 at the old BN (SP&S) depot in Astoria, Ore. ART operates the 300 on a stretch of ex-BN trackage along the city's Columbia River waterfront.
Oregon DOT and the Portland & Western RR operated the Explorer service during the summer season from 2003 to 2005 as part of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial. The RDCs used on the train came from BC Rail after the railroad discontinued its passenger service in October 2002.
After the Astoria service ended, the cars were stored at the old SP Brooklyn Yard in Portland, Ore. The Wallula Union RR in northeastern Oregon purchased the cars and most recently operated them on the road's seasonal Eagle Cap excursion trains.
