Ready for drifts. We see 1923 Pullman Number 1 East Boston Tunnel car 0503 here at the Orient Heights Yard, parked and waiting for duty for the next snow storm. The passenger motor was converted into a snow blower with the addition of an industrial-sized blower, dual air horns, rotating yellow warning beacon, and fog lights, which have replaced the massive Golden Glow headlight found on the cars. These Pullmans were especially suited for work duty, as in spite of their (then) fifty-six years of service, they were still strong and dependable. Apparently, the shop thinks that the car's truck brooms were superfluous with the blower, as they have been removed. Their Blue Line route is particularly susceptible to extreme weather, with icy gales of snow and ice blowing in off the ocean on their coastal ROW.
