MTA PCC car 3340 at the Seashore Trolley MuseumMTA PCC 3340 started life as a double ended car in Dallas. 8 of them were bought by the MTA in Boston to replace aging type 5s in shuttle service where service didn't go all the way to the end of the line (such as school extras, etc.) where there was no loop, creating the need for a double ended car. (This service was one of the last hurrahs for the type 5's as well, and one of the last places they hung on.) After running in Boston in the orange shown here, they were sent to the Mattapan-Ashmont line to run there. At least 3 survive from Boston, in MTA colors, while a fourth is in Dallas colors.
