Oldest subway station in America.

The sign reads ten-cents in this view of a fare box and turnstile at Boylston Street Station. The station is the country's oldest, along with Park Street Station, both having been opened September 1,1897, amidst fearful speculation of darkness, hazardous air, moisture, and demons in a world underground that few had visited at the time. To the surprise of those concerned, the station tuned out to be actually bright and not life-threatening.
