Paris Metro.

Hanging overhead like a pair of giant serpents, the art-nouveau design and lighting of many Paris subway station entrances are unique. The more than century old designs were hand crafted by architects such as Hector Guimard in an effort to give the "new" utilitarian underground domain, touches of beauty.

Photographed by Paul Joyce, June, 1976.
