Type G Conductor.

SF Muni Type G Car 578 Conductor at the controller of this restored trolley, which is Muni's oldest running streetcar. Painted in its Market Street Railway Company colors, the car had been used as a sand car by M.S.Ry.Co. after its revenue use, prior to rehab by Muni. Its large brake lever is more indicative of the Barbary Coast era's cable cars, which its maker, the John Hammond and Company, also produced. The Conductor is seen wearing appropriate portable fare registers for the car. The pink cap is her own stylish touch.

Photographed by Paul Joyce, June, 1985.
