Triplex at the beach.

A BMT D-type Triplex three-car set sits at Brighton Beach Station on the D-Line during a NYCTA-March of Dimes fan trip. The restored units, part of the NYCTA's historic collection, were delivered to the BMT in 1927 and ran up until 1965 in regular service, primarily on the Brighton Line. The steel cars had been ordered in 1924 following the tragic Malbone Street Wreck of 1918, in which wooden cars derailed, killing many passengers. The Triplexes were the heaviest cars ever on the system at 104 tons. A three-car set has four trucks instead of the usual six, as a truck is located under each articulated joint between permanently coupled units.
