A cropped version of an earlier posted photo to display the changes in forty-one years of subway car manufacturing. The shot, taken at Eliot Square, Cambridge Yard 3/11/74, shows the differences between 1928 Osgood-Bradley and 1969 Pullman-Standard products. Both cars were designed for the Cambridge Subway and are just about as different as two cars could be with the exception of their 4'- 8 1/2" gauge. For a time, the O.B. cars were the longest in America at sixty-nine feet. Their all-steel construction is a vivid contrast to the Pullman's "brushed-aluminum". Osgood's 85,051 lbs. vs. Pullman's 67,602 lbs. Thirty-two years hence, the Pullman cars are still running, and have held up admirably on their expanded "Red Line" route.
