Duquesne Incline, Pittsburgh

A view of the Duquesne Incline looking up. Note the cable on the right track that propels the car. The winch either winds up to pull the car up or lays out the cable to lower the car. Both cars operate at the same time, so as one goes up the other comes down. The motorman operates both cars at the same time from controls in the headhouse. There is a note posted at control stand to conserve electricty by waiting at least three minutes beteen trips.
