More Redbirds

The R36 World's Fair "Redbird" cars, built in 1964, rest in Corona Yard in Queens, NY, across from Shea Stadium. These cars were built for the 1964 NY World's Fair and were first turquoise blue when delivered. After graffiti stuck them, they were painted Redbird red. Most have been buried at sea as artificial barrier and coral reefs for diving and fishing off Delaware, South Carolina, Georgia and New Jersey.

Photographed by Kevin Wong, February 2, 2001.
