NYW&B Storer Avenue Station, December 19, 1911

This is the New York, Westchester & Boston Railway's Pelhamwood/Storer Avenue Station under construction in December, 1911. The NYW&B was envsioned as a state-of-the-art electric railroad. The line was built at an enormous cost and was characterized by ornate Italian Renaissance concrete and cinderblock stations and its level, wide right-of-way, The NYW&B crossed Westchester County the most direct ways possible using deep rock cuts and masssive viaducts, and it was completely free of grade crossings. The photographs which follow this image were taken on June 30, 2004 on the site of the roadbed just beyond the bridge in this photo.

Photographed by Collection Of JohnTolley, December 19, 1911.
