The motorman - or motorwoman - will spend a few minutes in Mattapan station, the end of the trolley line, then swing around the loop to head northward again for the 11-minute ride to Ashmont. From there, commuters can hop onto regular Red Line trains and go to Boston proper, including South Station, or continue on to the other end of the line at Alewife, 11 miles and 39 minutes distant, on the north side of the Hub.
