Type 3 snowplow in its element

MBTA trolley snowplow 5138, built as a Type 3 city car for the Boston Elevated Railway in 1908 and later converted, was already 61 years old as it and its crew were about to go to work out of the Reservoir carhouse in Brookline, MA, during a February 1969 blizzard. This ancient wood-bodied machine is now at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Maine.

There were 3 blizzards in 1969. The first one resulted in 5000 cars abandoned on a Sunday night on Route 128. By the time the 3rd on hit, everyone stayed home and the Boston streets were patrolled by road graders. Note the Bombardier J-5 snowplow, an excellent snow-moving machine
